You've
taken a turn into a world of Latino music
that's underneath what you hear on the radio
and see on TV. For instance, the traditional
Mexican guitar music of Frank Corrales
brings back to life the "epoca de oro" or
golden age of Mexican song of the 1940s and
1950s. It's the melodies made famous by
singers like Jose Alfredo Jimenez and
polkitas and cumbias played in the dance
halls and weddings.
Then there
is the flamenco guitar from Spain and all of
it's derivatives. We also invite you to
explore the spiritual side of Latino music
with music written as far back as the 1500s
to honor the Virgin of Guadalupe as well as
some of the guitar tunes you might have
heard this Sunday. In short this these CDs
represent the roots and soul of the Latino
music of the Southwest and Mexico.
