Celebrations dedicated to La Virgen Maria
are an integral part of Latino Spirituality
throughout Latin America and the American
Southwest. This album delves into the heart
of these celebrations with a series of
festive, melodious pieces that feature the
nylon-string guitar as a central instrument.
Several of the tunes are traditional songs
dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe such as
De Colores, Golondrinas Para La Virgen and
Mananitas Para La Virgen. Other tunes
include Latino-style versions of Ave Maria
and Jesu Joy of Man s Desiring. Most of the
tracks also feature accompaniment from the
Mexican harp, marimba button accordion and
percussion.
